From 'Paint' Magazine January 2006:
'Since you have been receiving letters from members who have had some very unfortunate (and expensive!) experiences with painting holidays I felt I had to let you know that there is hope! I have recently spent an extremely enjoyable two days on one of Trudy Friend's drawing and painting courses in the Forest of Dean. To begin with, we all met up with Trudy giving us the opportunity to get to know her and the other course members and relax into it before we started for real the following morning.
It was a very well planned course and not a moment was wasted. Trudy had a very specific lesson plan so you knew in advance what she would cover and when.
Prior to booking the course, I contacted Trudy to ask for more details which were sent promptly. Having booked, she sent more information together with a personal questionnaire which gave her a little information in advance and enabled her to think about course content.
Trudy is a very personable tutor with immense experience and skill. Although we worked hard and covered a lot, we also had a lot of fun.
Guest comments from Trudy’s courses at The Wyndham Arms Hotel
Room used was very good for its purpose – good light. Instruction excellent.
Content – excellent – well structured and points illustrated by tutor. Follow up work at home – useful ideas and suggestions for further practice. Very positive encouragement when participants unsure of a process or ‘next step’.
Good room for the art course – lighting and proximity to water – tables appropriate height.
Evening talk was an introduction into Trudy’s style and way of painting. Very good, gave us an idea of what wonders we were going to expect.
Tutor – we are fortunate to have been under the tuition of an excellent tutor who took her time to demonstrate her vast skills to all. I would like to book the course again.
Art course excellent – no criticism.
I felt relaxed instantly and knew that I would enjoy the course.
The best tutor we have ever been to, ready to come back again. Introductory talk most instructive. Evening talk and demonstration made me so enthusiastic.
Introduction to the course was very informative, as was the evening talk/demonstration.
Trudy shared all her skills without making us feel like novices.
We all felt at ease with the tutor and I think she felt the same also.
Plenty of helpful information and techniques to help and improve and develop our own skills. An ongoing day of discovering the different methods the pencil and the brush can achieve to help us.
I realized how important it is to draw. Felt I had learned a lot of new techniques.
I realised what I was lacking and learned so much from the course. My work, I am confident, will improve from just these few days. Certainly hope to return and would recommend a friend.
My response to the first day’s tuition was one of enjoyment and anticipation of day to come. I felt we had art covered so much ground and received so much help on techniques.
I do not think it could be improved or changed – a wonderful experience
